Pampaneira is an essential destination for anyone visiting La Alpujarra. It is located on the southern slope of the Sierra Nevada, within the Sierra Nevada National and Natural Park, forming part of the Barranco del Poqueira (Poqueira Ravine). Located in a privileged spot in the heart of La Alpujarra and forming part of the Barranco del Poqueira (Poqueira Ravine), most of the municipal area lies within the Sierra Nevada National Park.
Heritage
The Church of Santa Cruz, built in the 16th century and located in the square, stands out among the traditional La Alpujarra architecture adapted to the mountainside, white houses with characteristic features such as tinaos, terraces and chimneys with caps.
Water
Water has shaped life and diversity in La Alpujarra for centuries, a legacy of the Al-Andalus period. Originating from the melting snow of Sierra Nevada, it is channelled through a network of waterways that not only slow down, store and distribute the flow, but have also given rise to the typical Alpujarra landscape..
Gastronomy
Influenced by the diverse cultures that have followed one another since Islamic times, the cuisine of La Alpujarra is based on agricultural and livestock products and condiments that are produced in the area. Cured meats, wines, sweets and chocolates are produced here.
Holidays
The Chisco de San Antón, San Blas and Carnival celebrations are held, as well as La Santa Cruz. El Entierro de la Zorra (The Burial of the Fox) is also a tradition. In summer, the Sulayr Festival takes place, and in autumn, the Craft, Organic Farming and Tourism Fair.

MUSIC IN THE TINAOS

The Sulayr Festival is the result of a partnership between music, heritage and cultural ecology. It takes place in one of Los Pueblos Más Bonitos de España (Spain's most beautiful villages), Pampaneira, a stunning natural setting at the foot of the Sierra Nevada National and Natural Park.

From Granada, you can get there by road via the A-44 or the Sierra Nevada-Costa Tropical motorway, taking exit 164 onto the A-348 road towards Lanjarón, then continuing on the A-4132. It takes an hour and 14 minutes, and the total distance is about 70 kilometres.
You can also go by bus. Alsa covers the route between Granada and Pampaneira. The bus stop is at Granada Bus Station and there are three daily departures. These are the same buses that connect Lanjarón and Pitres, continuing on to Bubión and Capileria. The bus journey takes about two hours.
