Route Pueblos del Poqueira

In the heart of La Alpujarra, in the Barranco del Poqueira (Poqueira Ravine), the route through Pampaneira, Bubión and Capileira allows travellers to contemplate one of the most beautiful corners of Spain.

 

The route is 9.8 km long and crosses a medium-high mountain ecosystem. The approximate duration of the route is 3 hours and 45 minutes. The maximum elevation gain is 630 m, starting at 1010 m and reaching a maximum altitude of 1430 m.

Route Sulayr

A 300-kilometre circular route through the Sierra Nevada National Park and the Sierra Nevada Natural Park, the largest in Spain. The average altitude is 1,800 metres. It connects two provinces, six regions and seventy municipalities.

It consists of 19 stages that run along paths, trails and cattle tracks in the mountains of the sun, as the Arabs called them. Along the route are the El Dornajo visitor centre and the La Cortijuela Botanical Garden, which provide information on the natural areas.

Route GR7

The longest in Europe, the GR7 Long Distance Trail begins at the Temple of Delphi in Greece and ends in Tarifa, in the province of Cádiz. It is an intercontinental trail that has been extended at both ends. On one side, it has been extended through Cyprus, and on the African side, it starts in Ceuta, crosses the north of the African continent and continues until it reaches the Sahara desert.

 

The municipality of La Puebla de Don Fabrique in Granada is the entry point for the GR7 in Andalusia. The route runs from Ventas de Zafarraya to Laroles, covering 410 kilometres divided into 25 stages: Ventas de Zafarraya – Alhama de Granada -. La Resinera – Fornes – Arenas del Rey – Jayena – Albuñuelas – Saleres – Restábal – Melegís – Murchas – Lecrín – Nigüelas – Lanjarón – Cáñar – Soportújar – Pampaneira – Bubión – Capilerilla – Pitres – Atalbéitar – La Tahaja – Pórtugos – Busquístar – Trevélez – Juviles – Timar – Narila – Cádiar – Alcútar – Bérchules – Mecina Bombarón – Yegen – Válor – Nechite – Mairena – Laroles – Bayárcal (Almería, 15 km) – Puerto Ferreira – Puerto de la Ragua – La Calahorra – Charches – El Alamo – Picón de Gor – Cortijo de Santa Olalla – Baza – Baños de Zújar – Zújar – Benamaurel – Cúllar – La Tejera – Orce – Galera – Huéscar – El Villar – Las Santas – Almaciles – Puebla de D. Local Route de la Atalaya

The circular route that starts in the municipality of Alpujarra runs through a natural area of great beauty, with abundant and varied vegetation, notably the chestnut grove that it crosses. The route offers splendid views of Capileira, Bubión and Pampaneira with the mountains in the background. The trail passes the ruins of farmhouses on both sides, such as Cortijo de Bañuelo and Cortijo La Atalaya, now abandoned, alongside farmland.

The route is 8.2 km long and takes 3.5 hours to complete.

Route Monte de Pampaneira

This local circular route starts in Pampaneira, covering 3.5 km and taking 1 hour and 40 minutes to complete. The first section runs alongside a natural forest abundant with holm oaks and gall oaks. It is recommended to do this route in spring and autumn.

 

It is an easy route suitable for all types of hikers. The elevation gain is 500 m, reaching a maximum altitude of 1,545 m at Monte de Pampaneira.

Route de la Cebadilla

La Cebadilla is a small, practically abandoned village near the Poqueira power station. The circular route starts in Capileira, the highest of the three historic villages in the Barranco del Poqueira (Poqueira Ravine), Bubión and Pampaneira. The walk follows a bridle path through a rugged mountainous area, passing terraced fields, cultivated areas and Mediterranean scrubland in other sections. The route reaches the point where the Toril and Naute rivers meet, at an altitude of 1,540 metres.

 

It is 7.5 km long and takes 4 hours to complete. The route has an elevation gain of 315 m. The highest point reached is 1605 m.

Route Acequias del Poqueira

A medium-high mountain circular route, approximately 19 kilometres long. The route takes you through the upper part of the Barranco del Poqueira (Poqueira Ravine), one of the most beautiful ravines in La Alpujarra region of Granada, allowing you to explore the upper basin of the River Poqueira, enjoy beautiful landscapes and take in views of the highest peaks on the peninsula.

 

The path runs alongside terraces created by many generations of farmers to make the hillside cultivable, and near the farmhouses, on the ascent, there is a good view of the ravine enclosed by the Sierra Lújar.

 

The return journey is along a path between two irrigation channels, the Acequia Alta and the Acequia Baja, for about 4 kilometres, almost without losing altitude and always above the 2,000-metre contour line, enjoying a great panoramic view of the high peaks of the Sierra Nevada.

 

A recommended route in spring and summer, the itinerary is safe although in winter it may be partially snow-covered.

 

The elevation gain is 624 metres, reaching 2,060 metres on the irrigation channel path.

Route Puente del Molino

This circular, medium-difficulty low-mountain route starts in Pampaneira and passes through the village of Bubión ─it can also be started from this point─, which can be easily reached in 45 minutes. On the way back, near the end of the route, it descends through a small forest of Pyrenean oak trees.

The route is about 6 kilometres long and takes 3 hours to complete, with an elevation gain of 250 metres. It is especially recommended in spring and autumn.
