Since 1982, Pampanera has been declared a Historic-Artistic Site. Its well-preserved historic centre is considered a Site of Cultural Interest and is one of “Los Pueblos más bonitos de España” (The Most Beautiful Villages in Spain).
The Church of Santa Cruz, built in the 16th century, features traditional La Alpujarra architecture adapted to the mountainside, with white houses and characteristic elements such as tinaos (covered porches), terraces, and chimneys with caps.
Narrow streets, fountains to cool off, irrigation channels fed by meltwater, and washing places complete the architectural elements that recall the area's Muslim past.
